Osborne (1894 – 1945)
David was born at Mt Kiera N.S.W. October 2nd 1891, and died from carcinoma of the stomach at Sloane Street, Goulburn N.S.W. on December 30th 1948[1], aged 57 years.
He married Mabel Hannah Osborne at St. Andrews Church, Lutwyche, Qld. on September 11th 1915.
Mabel was born at Windsor, Qld, on June 15th 1894 and died at St. John of God Hospital, Goulburn on Jan 6th 1945, aged 50 years.[2]
David went
to Brisbane and worked for a timber firm at Albion hauling logs by horse and
dray to the mill. Later he worked in a Butcher’s Shop at Windsor and met Mabel
during that time.
At the time
of his marriage he was employed as a Cleaner, then as a Fireman by the N.S.W.
Govt. Railways and they lived in Harden N.S.W. for some time. Later they moved
to Goulburn where he became a Driver of Steam Trains, living there for 29 years
of over 34 years of service with the Railways. Like his Father before him,
David made history with a train, He drove the first Goods Train to make the
journey from Moss Vale down to Unanderra.He was interested in sporting activities and played Football for a South Coast team prior to his marriage. He was also a keen member of the Raiway Cricket Team in Goulburn for a number of years.
