William Bolton 1772 - 1830


William Bolton was married first to Mary Tysol on 19 October 1795 at Birmingham, Warwickshire, and then to Mary Barlow on 16 August 1813. The only children I have found to William and Mary Bolton (nee Tysol) were Ann Tysol baptized 4 March 1807 and Eliza born 28 December 1812. Ellen was born on 28 June 1816 at Birmingham, Warwickshire, and her sister Sarah c1818 to William and Mary (nee Barlow).

The above information comes from Carol Herben’s book ‘From Burren Street to the Gallows’ and may well be true. There is a burial record for Mary Bolton in the Lancashire, England, Church of England Deaths and Burials, 1813-1986. This would have her dying shortly after the birth of Eliza.

William Bolton convicted of Sacrilege and sentenced to Life on March 15, 1821. Moved to Prison Hulk Justita, moored at Woolwich on June 18, 1821. Sailed from England July, 1821 on LORD HUNGERFORD arriving at Hobart, Tasmania. He was assigned to Public Works December 26, 1821. He is recorded as being found dead May 1830 in the Australian Convict Muster below.

Thomas Makin 1893 - 1915

1975, Private Thomas Makin 14th Battalion Australian War Memorial: Studio portrait of 1975 Private Thomas Makin, 14th Battalion from Korumburra, Victoria. A 22 year old miner prior to enlisting in the AIF on 14 January 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 5th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 17 April 1915 aboard HMAT Hororata. He was killed in action on 8 August 1915 at Kaiajik Dere, Gallipoli and his name is inscribed on the Lone Pine Memorial at Gallipoli with others who have no known grave.   Thomas Makin was born in 1893 at Wollongong New South Wales. His parents were Thomas Makin (1866-1929) and Jane McVicars (1873 - ). Grandparents were Thomas Makin (1838 – 1923) and Mary Ann Derritt (1842 – 1918).
